The Dock 1 Boutique Living was once the place I called home. The then 5-storey building served as a casa bottega for my grandparents on the first two floors; whilst my parents resided on the upper floors. The name of the establishment is an endearing memory of what I grew up with, although admittedly there is nothing endearing about waking up to the sound of sirens and sandblasting, but this is our story..
The beautiful views this property enjoys today were back then hidden behind a hulking grey wall of the Dry Docks. From our roof we were able to look over into Dock 1 and watch the workmen in their scrubs drilling or molding away, and when the cranes were operated, we even managed to get the occasional wave from the operators.
The location of our house was ideal for so many reasons. Situated smack in the middle between the parish church dedicated to the Immaculate Conception on the left and the secondary church dedicated to St Theresa on the right, we were never short of front row views of all catholic processions and feasts, which still happen to this day.
The small jewellery shop my grandparents ran from the ground floor of the house, was popular with the locals but was also frequently visited by non-locals who wished to commission a piece of silverware from my grandfather who was a renowned silversmith and who’s works today may be found in many churches across Malta, various embassies and even the Vatican.
Following the demise of my grandparents, my parents held on to the property and though it remained vacant for several years, it was always my wish to restore it and just like my grandfather, start my own family business.
So here we are today, ready to welcome you into our home. My eldest daughter Martina will be your host and my youngest Francesca, will make sure to satisfy your taste buds.

Roberto
